Tow-Arm Release Instructions

TOW-ARM RELEASE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Remove the tow-arm from your planer board, discard screws and use screws provided in the kit. Assemble hardware as instructed below.
Lay out all assembly parts. Take hinge (A), put one screw (B) through hole on inside of hinge that closes completely. Take locking plate (C) and place over screw (B), place tow-arm on top of locking plate (see illustration 1) hand tighten locking nut (D) onto screw (B). Take 2nd screw (B) and repeat steps above and hand tighten locking nut (D). Use phillips screwdriver and pliers to snug screws up slightly, you will notice the holes are larger in the locking plate so that nothing binds. Align all parts and tighten screws.

Put screw (E) through clip (F) so that nut is on the bottom side of clip,(see illustration 2) slide locking pin (G) on screw (E) take 6-32 locking nut (H), tighten so clip and pin are snug, loosen nut slightly so pin works freely.  The Tow-arm Release can be attached to the right or left planer board. On mounting platform (I), “R” up for right or “L” up for left. Mount spring housing (J) on top of mounting platform (I), make sure the opening on the
spring housing (J) is at bottom of mounting platform, (see illustration 3).

Align four screws (K) and tighten just until snug, do not over-tighten or damage will occur. Slide locking pin (G) about ½ ” through back of spring housing (J), slide spring (L) over locking pin (G), push locking pin all the way through spring housing. You will notice two grooves on locking pin (G), the first groove is the light setting, second groove is the heavy setting. Hold the retainer clip (M) with needle nose pliers,
slide spring (L) back with retainer clip until groove in locking pin (G) is located, push retainer clip on groove in locking pin.  Now you’re ready to mount the assembly onto planer board. Lay planer board on it’s back, align holes in platform (I) to holes in planer board. (locking pin clip should be pointed to back of board, see illustration 4).

Lay hinge (A) over top of platform, align holes and put screws (N) through hinge
and platform and screw into board. You will notice the holes in platform are larger than the holes in the hinge. After slightly snugging screws (N) align your housing parallel to your board and then tighten screws (N), do not over tighten or damage will occur.
Pull locking pin all the way back and raise tow-arm, release locking pin; this will lock tow-arm into the proper trolling position.

Using your Tow-arm Release

1). Adjust your board clip so the line won’t release.
2). Adjust the locking pin clip just tight enough to pull the pin back.
3). At trolling speed, let out the desired amount of line that you want your
lure to run from board.
4). Place line in the board clip.
5). Pull rear pin and put line behind the rear pin.
6). Make sure the locking pin clip is upside down, as shown.
7). Raise locking pin clip slightly.
8). Bring line from lure and insert line into locking pin clip; the clip will then
lay against board as shown.
Open drag on the reel, set board in water, when board is at desired distance from boat set drag. At this point your board will stand up. When a fish gets on it will pull the locking pin, the tow-arm flips up which causes your board to lay over in the water. Be sure you adjust your locking pin clip so when fish gets on it pulls the line from the locking pin clip, but not your board clip. Your locking pin has two grooves, one for a
lighter setting and one for a heavier setting. Always use the lightest setting possible, just so your lure does not pull the locking pin before fish strikes. If your lure trips the tow-arm and the tow-arm flips up, you will need to go to the next setting. It is impossible for us to experiment with every lure, line diameter, and trolling speed. The springs that are included in the kit cover a wide range.
