Mini-Ski Setup

This method of using the planer board requires 2 rods; one rod is used as a mast for the planer board.

Using a spare trolling rod and reel, tie the line around the planer board clip so it does not come loose.

Using the clip and shower curtain ring, (Church Tackle part# 50101 – Non Adjustable Dual Planer Board Clip, comes with 2 clips and 2 shower curtain rings attached) secure the narrow end of the of the ring in the rear slot of The Church board with the integral pin provided.

To deploy this rig, use a spare trolling rod and reel for the mast and insert it in a vertical rod holder (mounted midships or anywhere convenient) and attach the line to the split ring on the board's center arm with a snap swivel.

Send your lure and line out from your fishing rod the desired distance and attach the line to the release at the rear of the board.

Now comes the tricky part… Send the planer and feed line out from the fishing rod at the same time. If you have a partner this is easy with each man handling one rod.  To do it single handed place one or both rods in holders and gradually adjust the balance as the planer goes out; you can adjust the drag of the “planer board mast” reel to slowly let out line, too.

The movable keel weight allows you to adjust for sea conditions and lure resistance."
